The Certain, Needful Part of Kingdom Truth

It’s easy to say we love God and it’s easy to say we serve Him, but are our actions reflecting Kingdom Truth? Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, but we have to be certain (sure; without doubt; without question; it cannot be denied) that we’re dwelling in the house of the Lord. If we’re not careful, we’ll follow society’s passion for multitasking, attempting to be in control of multiple tasks all at once, but it’s only a matter of time before we'll realize we’ve made a mess. Multitasking is birthed out of disobedience when our focus is off of Kingdom Truth.

We see a good example of just how certain – and uncertain - we can be by taking a look at sisters Mary and Martha. Let’s begin in Luke 10:38-40 to find out what happened when Jesus entered a certain village: "Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me."

We quickly see that Martha was certain of one thing: being busy. Her questioning Jesus showed a selfish, judgmental and controlling spirit, rooted in pride and jealousy. She wanted to be the subject; all the action to be on her. Continuing in verses 41-42, “Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

While Martha was actually uncertain, Mary was certain. Where was Mary? Sitting, serving the Lord, being single-task minded. Mary was willing to hear and willing to be taught. Anytime we're not putting God first – as the primary subject in our lives – is really sin. If we let mess be the subject in our lives, we’ll end up serving the mess and there’ll be no room for a Kingdom message. Mary’s focus on Kingdom Truth was certain. She chose the certain, needful part, which is an example to us: faithfulness in serving God.

Our actions need to reflect God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Our schedules can’t cause us to bypass the One we're serving. Let’s be certain to sit at Jesus’ feet and let nothing separate us from Him.
